It was the super sixes match by two prominent teams in the tournament India and New Zealand. Winning the toss Sourav Ganguly put the kiwis in to bat first on the helpful Centurion wicket. All that the New Zealand batters could manage was 146 and they were all done. Indian bowlers bowled exceptionally well on the day especially left-arm pacer Zaheer Khan who bowled the match winning spell of 8-0-42-4.

All that the New Zealand batters could manage was 146 and they were all done. Indian bowlers bowled exceptionally well on the day especially left-arm pacer Zaheer Khan who bowled the match winning spell of 8-0-42-4.

This was the big match, final of the Prudent World Cup 1983 at the Mecca of cricket the Lord’s cricket ground. Batting first the Indian team had given the West Indies of 184 to chase. It was expected to be an easy win for the West Indians looking at the batting they had, all the Indian bowlers were too spirited to give it away and kept picking wickets at regular intervals and threw out the then world champs out of the game to be win their first ever World Cup title.

Sourav Ganguly the Indian captain won the toss and elected to bat first; but to the shock of their fans the team was all out for 204 and could not even play full 50 over’s. In the second innings they were much more professional and quickly wrapped up the Netherlands innings for 136. Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble took 4 wickets each.

The New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg hosted the 4th match of the super sixes league between India and Sri Lanka. The Islanders won the toss and put India in to bat first, a strong batting performance by almost all the batsmen propelled India to a solid score of 292. Sri Lanka were dealt early blow in their innings and as the wickets started to fell with just 2 runs on the board, it stopped only when they were all out for 109 runs. India registered one of their biggest wins in world cup cricket winning the match by 183 runs.

And the streak continued as they ruffled the UAE to secure a 9 wickets win over the associate team. The UAE skipper won the toss and chose to bat first, a thoroughly professional performance by the bowlers ensured their opponents were bundled on with just 102 runs on the board. In response to it opener Rohit Sharma struck a quick fire half-century and India won the match quite comfortably and are all set to top their group.
