Mahela Jayawardene shuts down a fan on Twitter with a shrewd reply

Sri Lankan batting maestro Mahela Jayawardene is one of the many cricketers who have opted to keep themselves associated with fans even after international retirement and engage through social media. The legendary cricketer is respected all over the cricketing world and fans always eagerly anticipate tweets from him for his views on various developments.

A funny incident came into occurrence today on Twitter when a fan responded cheekily to a tweet from Jayawardene to which the Sri Lankan gave an appropriate reply. The 39-year-old middle order batsman took out time and posted a picture on his Twitter account that he had captured while driving on the streets of Sri Lanka.

The picture showed autos occupying the ‘Bus Lane’ – a lane reserved for the buses. Jayawardene questioned the people on following traffic rules by sharing the picture and captioning it as “what’s the point having a bus lane?”.

Things were normal until a fan tried to give the veteran cricketer a better idea of the road safety rules in response to his tweet. Assuming that Jayawardene took the picture while driving, the fan pointed out that even using mobile phone while driving is against the law. His tweet read, “Also I thought using phones while driving is not allowed. Ah…well… I may be wrong.”

Mahela who was known as an outstanding player of spin bowling, tackled this question that spun his way equally well. He pointed out the fact that the picture was taken from the left side of the car and in Sri Lanka the driver sits on the right, Jayawardene nailed the situation with perfection. He even added a bit of humour along and said that he was wearing the seat belt in case the fan brought it up as the next suggestion.
