Indian middle-order batsman Manish Pandey was sweating it out in the nets before the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka. Pandey was named in the 15-man squad, after his outstanding show during the tri-nation tour to South Africa, where he maintained an average of 307, playing for India A. Pandey was dismissed just once in the series, putting a heavy price on his wicket.

With the Indian team opting for the rotation-policy it will be interesting to see if the Karnataka boy gets an opportunity. The BCCI Twitter handle uploaded a video of Pandey practicing in nets, with a caption ” Manish Pandey sweating it out in the net session, ahead of the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka.”

Dream start

India sealed the 1st ODI against the Lankans by 9 wickets, after opener Shikhar Dhawan and skipper Virat Kohli stitched a 197-run partnership. Dhawan scored his 3rd century of the tour. He has previously scored two in during the Test series and started the ODIs with an impressive 132. Kohli, on the other hand, played the role of the second fiddle and remained unbeaten with about 20 runs short of the three figure mark.

India starts preparing for the World Cup

After the game, Kohli admitted that they will fancy their chances and will take certain risks, going into the 2019 World Cup. He said that he will bring in fresh faces too, as India prepares for the World Cup.

“It’s two years to go for the World Cup and now is the time to give players certain roles, get them into the groove and make them understand what we need to do. For us it’s all about when you want to start and experiment as a team,” Kohli had said.

“Criticism will come along the way. You try things and lose, and people will say that it shouldn’t have been done. But we should be ready to embrace challenges and ready to take risks… ready to even lose a few games while trying out something,” the Indian captain revealed hinting at an influx of lesser experienced players in the team.
