The Indian Under-19 team under the guidance of Rahul Dravid won the U19 World Cup 2018 quite comprehensively in New Zealand. This was the fourth time India went on to win the junior World Cup. Opening batsman Manjot Kalra was the star of the show in the final. He became the second Indian after Unmukt Chand to register a hundred in the big match.

Though it wasn’t a stiff chase and people backed favourites Team Indian to chase down 217 but they lost two key players – Prithvi Shaw and Shubman GIll pretty cheap. Before it could cause any troubles, Kalra stood up and took the responsibility of taking the team home. He combined with Harvik Desai to see the team through with 8 wickets in hand.

People tell me I look like SRK

It is not only his cricketing prowess that attracts attention, the Delhi batsman has been compared to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan for his looks. “When I used to dress well people tell me that I look like Shah Rukh Khan,” the swashbuckling batsman revealed in an interview with ICC.

Kalra started the tournament with a solid 86 against the Aussies but went on to register only 18 runs in the next three games. He was rested in the quarter-final match against Papua New Guinea but came back with a bang in the semi-finals against Pakistan, striking an impressive 47.

The young guns have shown a lot of character and positivity in the tournament. It was the bowlers who impressed the most as they consistently bowled balls at 140 kmph and were literally unplayable at times. More often than not, they bowled out the oppositions cheap and made the job of the batsmen a lot easier for the batters.

“I’m really happy that the 15 boys got to wear the World Cup medal. They deserve it. It’s been a lot of sacrifices, the way they played in the World Cup. The way they jelled, the quality of cricket they played – all these give you a lot of satisfaction. We were under pressure in a few games, but there were people who stood up and delivered,” coach of the team, former India captain Rahul Dravid said after the win.
