The talk around the England v Pakistan Test series and more so around Mohammad Amir’s Test comeback at the Lord’s Cricket Ground has been whether tainted cricketers should be given a second chance or is it too serious a crime to be given a second life. A lot of current and former cricketers including England’s Kevin Pietersen have expressed their opinions. KP in his recent article for The Telegraph was clear that in his opinion anyone caught match or spot-fixing should be banned for life. Former South African wicketkeeper Mark Boucher today tweeted to say that he completely agrees with Pietersen’s opinion.

In his column, KP wrote, “Any sportsman or woman caught match-fixing, spot-fixing or taking drugs should be banned for life. They have broken the rules, should pay the price and not be given a second chance.”

“If you cheat the system, either by taking drugs or money to underperform, then you are mugging the spectators, your team-mates and a sport that has been around a lot longer than you,” Added Pietersen.

“People always deserve a second chance in life but sport is different. We are paid to play a sport we love and are damn lucky to lead the life of a professional cricketer. To try to gain an advantage by taking drugs or devaluing your sport by being bribed is breaking the 11th and 12th commandments. There can be no way back.”

Earlier Boucher had also put forward a recommendation that the bails should be attached to stumps. That to prevent an injury similar to what cost him his career. “I had not worn the helmet but even if I had, it would not have avoided the accident. Helmets are designed for balls, not bails,”

“My recommendation would be to somehow attach the bails to the stumps, by a light string. This way, the bails will not fly and cause damage to any player”. He had said.
