English cricketer Michael Lumb has been forced to retire from all forms of the game following an untimely ankle injury. The Nottinghamshire batsman played his final game against the Warwickshire recently. He had moved to Nottinghamshire back in the year 2012. Prior to that, he had represented Yorkshire in the English domestic circuit. Lumb is one of the most successful domestic cricketers in England.

He represented England in 3 ODIs and 27 T20Is in his international career. In the First Class cricket, his numbers are staggering. He has amassed 11443 runs in 210 matches with a top score of 221*. His attacking game play made him a great entertainer for the fans. His exploits with the bat at the top of the order had fetched him IPL and BBL contracts as well.

Michael Lumb was very disappointed to have ended his career so abruptly. He noted that Nottinghamshire will always be close to his heart. He thanked his team mates, coaches, support staff, and family after declaring his retirement from the game.

“I have had the best time at Trent Bridge, in my view the most productive years of my career, and Nottinghamshire is the club I have most enjoyed playing for. I’m extremely disappointed I’ve had to retire from cricket, particularly in the middle of the season, but I have to respect medical opinion,” quoted Michael Lumb.

“I would like to thank all my teammates, the coaching staff and everyone else at the Club for making my stay at Nottinghamshire such a memorable one. Those sentiments also go to everybody at both Yorkshire and Hampshire, who have made my career so enjoyable. Last, but by no means least, I couldn’t have achieved what I have without the total support of my wife Lizzie and all the rest of my family,” added Lumb.

A role model to others

Director of Cricket in Nottinghamshire, Mick Newell, also expressed his disappointment at the abrupt end to such an illustrious career. He called Michael Lumb as inspiration and role model for many players in the country. He wished him all the success in the future endeavors of life.

“It’s very sad news for Michael. He’s a hugely talented batsman that has entertained cricket followers all over the world. He’s a great role model to others and a superb professional. Michael is an immensely popular senior player in the dressing room and highly respected for what he has achieved during his career. We wish him every success and thank him for all he has contributed to the Club,” he quoted.
