Former English skipper Michael Vaughan is not at all pleased with the recent one match ban imposed on South African speedster Kagiso Rabada. He took to social media site Twitter and expressed his disappointment at the ban. During the day 1 play of the first Test against England, South African pace bowler Kagiso Rabada was found guilty of using inappropriate words towards English all-rounder Ben Stokes.

He was found to have violated the article 2.1.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Player and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his/her dismissal during an International Match”.

He was fined 15 per cent of his match fees and was given one demerit point as well. Apparently, he had used the infamous ‘f word’ after having dismissed Ben Stokes on 56 in the first innings of the game. As the television reviews suggested, Kagiso Rabada was seen saying ‘f*** off’ in his celebration after dismissing Stokes. Rabada was subsequently handed a one match fan since this was not the first instance where he was handed a demerit point. The former cricketers have already expressed their disbelief at the way Rabada was handed a match ban.

Former players criticize the move

Former South African skipper Graeme Smith had also condemned the move taken by the ICC match officials in the regard. He had conceded that the entire episode could have been dealt with in a much better way. Now, former English cricketer Michael Vaughan has also spoken about the same. He suggested the officials to rather focus on more important issues like the over rates than banning a player for using a couple of words in aggression.

“Rababa Suspended for 1 match for a couple of Words ….. Give me a break … what about the continuous slow over rates @icc !????????” tweeted Michael Vaughan.
