England selectors have attracted a lot of ire for picking Adil Rashid in the Test squad for the first of the five-match series against India. Even Michael Vaughan had called it as a ‘ridiculous’ decision as the leggie had opted to stay away from the red ball cricket earlier this year to concentrate on the limited-overs format. After being on the receiving end from all the corners of the fraternity, Rashid came up with a statement saying that Vaughan’s comments don’t matter to many.

He also went on to term all his opinions as ‘stupid’ and was also critical of the former cricketer always tweeting something every now and then about a current lot of players. However, he also cleared that he had never retired from Test cricket according to a few pundits and had just taken a break from the longest format.

“I don’t see what the big deal is, with people talking about me being retired. I didn’t say anything about retirement, which some pundits have said. When I mentioned at the start of the year I will not be playing red-ball cricket, he (Vaughan) tweeted something then. He was being controversial and saying his stupid things then too.” he had said.

Michael Vaughan, however, is extremely disappointed it seems after being called stupid by his Yorkshire mate. He also clarified that his comments were in the wake of lack of red-ball cricket played by Adil Rashid ahead of the Test series against India who are sitting pretty at the top in the rankings.

“Being called Stupid for wanting a player to be professional & play a Red ball 4 Game to prepare for the No1 Test Team in the World is an official career Highlight …. The Cricket world has officially gone NUTS …. #OnOn,” Vaughan tweeted in response to Rashid’s comments.

However, it remains to be seen now if England will include him in the playing XI for the series opener in Birmingham next week.
