The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a jumbo 35-member squad for the Pakistan Tour of New Zealand in December-January. Pakistan will lock horns against New Zealand in the three-match T20I series followed by two Test fixtures, starting from December 18. One notable omission from the T20I squad was pacer Mohammad Amir.

Along with Amir, Asad Shafiq, and veteran all-rounder, Shoaib Malik was also ousted from the T20 team. This was a big move considering the next ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled next year in India. Meanwhile, the head coach Misbah-ul-Haq clarified that the management is looking to bring in new faces in the shortest format of the game.

However, the senior pacer Amir is miffed with his omission from the New Zealand series and has held the coach Misbah responsible for keeping him out of the squad. Notably, Amir wasn’t included in the Zimbabwe series too where the Men in Green defeated touring Zimbabwe by 2-1 in ODIs and whitewashed the visitors in the T20I series.

Mohammad Amir expresses his disappointment via Twitter

Amir’s last outing for Pakistan came in August when he featured in the T20 Internationals against England. In two games, the left-arm pacer went wicketless and leaked runs at more than 9 runs per over.

The 28-year-old pacer publicly expressed his frustration for being dropped out from the squad on Twitter. A Pakistani journalist Shoaib Jatt took to his official Twitter handle to question their decision of leaving a senior pacer like Mohammad Amir, who has emerged as a match-winner for the team when the T20 World Cup is just a year away.

The seamer was quick to give a reply as he took a dig at Pakistan’s head coach. Amir tweeted, “Misbah saab hi bata sakte hain but good luck for team green”, which translates to “Only Misbah can tell explain why I wasn’t picked but, good luck to the team.”

Misbah-ul-Haq had recently stepped down from the duty of the chief selector but will continue to be the head coach of the team. He was given a double role after Pakistan’s group-stage exit in the World Cup.
