Who would have predicted that the 8th ranked team entering the ICC Champions Trophy will emerge victoriously? No one, right? Quite obviously, a Pakistan side with inexperienced cricketers, disputes in the board and no home game for 10 years did not stand a chance.
But in a massive turn around of events, Pakistan silenced their critics in the most appropriate way possible. The men in green thrashed arch-rivals and favourite India in the grand finale in a one-sided affair to lay their hands upon the crown.
The main story:
In a hilarious video posted by Cric Now, Pakistan legend Misbah-ul-Haq is being laughed at by the Ten Sports crew. The reason? The right-handed batsman had predicted that Pakistan will win the Champions Trophy even before the start of the Mega event, and the video was recorded after the team suffered a shameful loss against the Indians in their group stage encounter.
The video shows Misbah being asked to repeat his prediction while the 43-year-old stood firm on his decision. The video is going viral right now because Sarfraz Ahmed and his men have proved the former captain right by playing some wonderful cricket throughout the tournament.
Lanky left-hander Fakhar Zaman was the star of the Pakistani batting line up as he slammed a magnificent ton to help him set up a huge total of 338 runs. Coming on to chase the mammoth target the Indian team got completely rattled by speedster Mohammad Amir and his brilliance with the ball. Pakistan restricted India to a mere score of 158 runs to steal an 180 run victory over the defending champions.
Misbah-ul-Haq is not the only Pakistani who got his prediction right. Former Pakistani cricketer and active commentator Rameez Raja was also bang on with his predictions. He also predicted Pakistan to be champions but he went one step ahead of Misbah as had also predicted the final to be between India and Pakistan.
