In a very sweet and a heartwarming gesture, two of the senior most members of the Indian Women’s cricket team donated their match jerseys to the Lord’s museum. The current Indian skipper Mithali Raj and former skipper Jhulan Goswami made the sweet gesture. The Lord’s museum is an iconic museum which boasts of some of the most cherished cricket memorabilia.

An official tweet from the Twitter handle of the ICC Cricket World Cup confirmed the same news recently. Both Mithali and Jhulan donated the jerseys which they wore during the tournament to the museum of the home of cricket. Talking about the tournament, it was definitely a heart breaking end for the Indian team. After having played so well throughout the tournament, the women in blue fell short at the last hurdle.

They were in firm command of the game during the finals against the hosts England Women. In a modest run chase of 228 for the trophy, the Indian team had it at a grabbing distance with a score of 191/3 at one stage. However, a total batting collapse saw the team bundling out for 219, and thereby losing the finals by 9 runs. In the tournament, both Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami came up with stellar performances.

The Indian skipper had lit up the tournament with a brisk fifty in the tournament opener against the same English side. She was spectacular with her batting and led the team from the front. On the other hand, Jhulan Goswami got better with every passing game – with her best coming on the day of the finals when she choked the English batters. It is only disheartening to know that these two ladies might not play a cricket world cup again.

The sweet gesture

“Amazing gesture from Jhulan Goswami & @M_Raj03, who have donated signed match-worn shirts to the @HomeOfCricket museum!” the tweet from the official Twitter handle of the ICC Cricket World Cup read.
