The Indian women’s team had an impressive outing in the WWC last month and the ripples of their heroic performance have now embossed the younger generation of women cricketers. Led by skipper Mithali Raj, the Indian eves went really close to lifting their maiden world cup trophy.

However, the Indian team finished as runners up after being eclipsed by hosts England in the summit clash at Lord’s. With the win, the Lions won their fourth World Cup trophy. Despite being dubbed as underdogs at the start of the championship, the journey of the Indian Women in the quadrennial event was remarkable.

Skipper Mithali Raj, the face of women’s cricket and one of the key figures in the Indian squad is now a national hero. Young enthusiasts now look up to her as an idol. A recent tweet made by a fan stands as a testament to that.

A user with Twitter handle @aekbote posted a video in which a little girl can be seen dressed up as the India captain. The child dressed up as Mithali as part of a school assignment where they were asked to dress up as their favorite national leader, and she chose the women’s team captain.

Here’s the tweet

34-year-old Mithali is the first woman cricketer to score seven consecutive half-centuries in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and the highest run-getter in ODIs. The right-hander was also chosen as the captain of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 team. Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma were the other two Indians to find a spot in the ICC team.

However, now with Raj entering the later stages of her career, it can only be so long before the incredible captain begins to decline, but she will always be remembered as one of the greatest cricketers of all time.
