Mohammad Ashraful, the veteran Bangladesh batsman, has donated his three month’s salary for the ones affected in the massive coronavirus outbreak. Ashraful got the amount a few days ago from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), being a part of the 91 contracted first-class cricketers. On Monday, April 27, the 35-year-old from Dhaka put forth the news.

The cases in the Asian country have reached nearly 6,000 with 152 deaths being reported thus far. About a week ago, it was decided that the lockdown in Bangladesh would be extended until May 5. In the grave scenario, Ashraful reckons that every other person should come forward.

“I think at this point in time, everyone should come forward. Our country doesn’t go through this sort of a situation all the time. I have also donated taka 85,000, my three months’ salary, to the needy if I can bring smile to them in crisis,” Ashraful was quoted as saying in sarabangla.net.

Apart from the donation, the veteran is also planning to give away a few of his treasured memorabilia. Ashraful is set to put the bat, with which he became the youngest Test centurion, up for auction. In 2001 against Sri Lanka, he achieved the milestone at the age of 16 years and 91 days. Even almost after a decade, the record has remained unscathed.

It’s been learned that Ashraful wants it’s base price to be taka 15 lakhs. Moreover, the talented batsman wishes to auction of the bat with which he scored his maiden ODI century against Australia at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff back in June 2005. Bangladesh also won the game by five wickets.

Back in 2013, Ashraful’s career went into the doldrums after he was found guilty during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He was allegedly paid about $12,800 to lose a match in the tournament, but as per reports, the cheque had bounced.

From 2013 onwards, he wasn’t in Bangladesh’s central contracts. However, in 2018, he gained back the same and managed to keep his spot with the help of consistent performances. He last played for the Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club against Khelaghar Kalyan Samity in the Dhaka Premier League back on March 16.
