Mohammad Ashraful hits back at Taskin Ahmed's critics

The 22-year-old pace bowler got married to longtime girlfriend Syeda Rabeya.

Young Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed has become a subject of criticism for getting hitched at an early stage in of his cricket career. The 22-year-old pace bowler got married to longtime girlfriend Syeda Rabeya on the arrival of Bangladesh cricket team from South Africa where they were bundled out by the hosts South Africa during a month-long tour.

On the aftermath of his nationwide criticism former Bangladesh skipper, Mohammad Ashraful threw his weight behind Ahmed by supporting his decision to tie the knot. While writing an article on a website, Ashraful, who was convicted for match-fixing scandal, slammed critics for interfering Ahmed’s personal affair. Since it is his life nobody has the right to intervene in his personal matter.

Ashraful slammed critics for interfering in Taskin’s personal affair

“Whenever any star cricketer got married, we heard all these babbling. And now it’s going on again. Why Taskin has married in such an early age? Why his wife is not like a nymph and on and on. I’m just saying, it is Taskin who is going to lead a life with her; who are you to judge how she is?” Ashraful wrote for bdcrictime.com.

“As spectators of our performance in the field, of course, you can deliver constructive criticisms but nevertheless you can never say what we are to eat, how we get dressed or to whom we tie our knots,” he further added.

Since his debut in 2014, the pacer has played 44 matches across the formats. During the South Africa tour, he had a forgettable tour as he bagged only three wickets across the formats. When he went wicketless in Test series, claimed two wickets in ODI series and one wicket in T20I series. This underperformance also fetched wrath from the fans.

Bangladesh were whitewashed in South Africa 

Bangladesh during the tour of South Africa lost all three series to the hosts. In the three-match Test series, they were defeated by huge margins. In the first Test South Africa handed them a 333 runs defeat and in the final Test, Bangladesh suffered a 254 runs defeat at the hands of the hosts.

In the ODI series, Bangladesh lost to South Africa by 10 wickets, 104 runs and 200 runs respectively in all three ODIs. In the T20Is, the visiting side endured 20 runs defeat in the first match and in the final match of the series they sustained a record 83 runs defeat to the hosts.
