After breaking into the national side in 2015, Iftikhar Ahmed has failed to establish himself as a regular starter for Pakistan. The batting all-rounder has donned the coloured jersey for the national side in only 4 ODIs in which he has amassed 68 runs at an average of 34.00. While in T20Is, Ahmed has smashed 150 runs in 5 matches at an impressive strike rate of 144.23. He has also smashed a half-century in the shortest format of the game.

Veteran Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has heaped praises on Ahmed based on his recent batting display against Australia. Hafeez termed Ahmed as a strong hitter of the ball who has the ability to bat at any position according to the situation. Hafeez believes that the 29-year-old has a very bright future ahead of him.

Mohammad Hafeez, who has represented Pakistan for over a decade has amassed 6614 runs from 218 ODIs at an average of 32.9. The all-rounder has also showcased his ability with the ball by scalping 139 wickets at an impressive economy of 4.18. Hafeez has also proved his ability with the red-ball. The 39-year-old has represented Pakistan in 55 Tests and has gathered 3652 runs at an average of 37.64.

Receiving such positive words from a vital player of Pakistan will certainly help in boosting Ahmed’s confidence. Ahmed was a part of the Karachi Kings in the first edition of the PSL. But after Kings released him, Peshawar Zalmi were successful to snap him up. Hafeez’s comments came after Iftikhar smashed 108 runs in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against Australia, which included a career-best score of 62 not out. Moreover, the right-handed batsman scored at an average of 108 and a strike-rate of 150.

‘You can use Iftikhar Ahmed wherever you want’

“Iftikhar is a strong hitter of the ball. You can use him wherever you want. He knows how to deliver and has proved that in domestic cricket,” Hafeez was quoted as saying by Ary Sports.

Iftikhar remained unbeaten in the first T20I against Australia which was abandoned due to rain. He played a vital knock of 62 runs off 34 balls in the second T20I. However, his efforts turned futile as Pakistan was not successful to clinch the victory. The all-rounder finished the series with a 37-ball 45 in the third T20I. Despite Ahmed’s important knocks in both the T20Is, Australia swept the three-match T20I series.
