Former India international Mohammad Kaif is heralded as one of India’s greatest fielders who changed the way Indians fielded along with partner Yuvraj Singh. Kaif played 125 ODI’s and 13 Tests for India in his six-year-long illustrious international career. The 37-year-old burst on to the scene during his under-19 days when he led the Indian team to victory in the junior World Cup. Kaif then went on to make his international debut in the Test format against the Proteas in 2000 and then came into the limited-overs side in 2002 and made a name for himself in the 2002 Natwest series final when he scored a memorable 87 off 75 to help India chase down 326.

The dynamic middle-order batsman has played in the Indian team with some of the best names in the business. He came into the side when the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Harbhajan and Zaheer Khan were in their prime. In a recent interaction with his fans on social media platform Twitter he opened up to an interactive session. A user by the name of ‘Viral Rajani’ asked Kaif about his all-time ODI XI in the Indian context.

Kaif’s Indians ODI XI: Sachin, Sehwag, Ganguly, Virat, Yuvraj, Dhoni, Kapil, Dev, Harbhajan, Zaheer, Kumble, Srinath in his all-time XI.

Kaif takes a subtle jibe at an English veteran

The 2002 Natwest Trophy is widely remembered for the iconic performances of Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif. The Men in Blue were tottering during their run-chase having lost a flurry of wickets. However, the duo weathered the storm with herculean knocks and carved the platform for a stupendous victory. While Yuvraj eventually, fell prey to Paul Collinwood’s wily medium pace, Kaif shepherded the team till the very end staying unbeaten.

And earlier, during the interactive session, one user asked him about his conversation with Yuvraj Singh during the Final. Kaif replied by saying that they were discussing Nasser Hussain’s jibe at Kaif during the game. The English skipper called Mohammad Kaif a ‘bus-driver, a comment which irked the Indian batsman and he pledged to make them pay a heavy price.

But the Indian something brilliant to answer as he replied, “Nasser Hussain actually called me a Bus driver 🙂 was good to take them for a ride !”
