Team India came back strongly in the second session of the third Test at Trent Bridge to bowl out England for 161 in their first innings. The performance was quite an emphatic statement from a side which has been struggling in the series and trailing 0-2 at the moment. Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif showered praise on the visitors for taking 10 wickets in one session to peg the hosts back in the Test.
England went to lunch at 46 for no loss with their two openers Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings in their 20s. But the hosts then lost wickets in a heap once their first wicket on 54, thanks to an energetic show by the Indian seamers. They lost all their 10 wickets for 107 runs after that opening partnership with Hardik Pandya picking five wickets for 28 runs in six overs.
Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, who made a comeback in this Test, took two wickets apiece while Mohammed Shami took the prized wicket of Ben Stokes. Debutant Rishabh Pant, who impressed with the bat earlier, took five catches in England’s innings.
Ravichandran Ashwin, the only spinner in the Indian side, bowled just one over in the game. He had trouble with his hip and didn’t return back on the field to bowl again.
“10 wickets in the session. Fantastic from India. Hardik Pandya was the standout with that magnificent spell. Firmly in India ‘s control as of now,” Kaif, who played 13 Tests and 125 ODIs for India, said.
