Team India pace bowler Mohammed Shami has come out in support of the Indian team. India suffered an embarrassing 333 run defeat at the hands of touring Australian side in the first Test at Pune. India were bundled out for 105 and 107 in the two innings of the Test and showed no resilience against the Aussie spinners on a rank turner.

Rookie spinner Steve O’Keefe bagged identical figures of 6/35 in both the innings to see the Indian batting lineup fall apart like ten pins. Despite all the brouhaha surrounding the poor show from the hosts, the Indian pacer believes that the team will surely bounce back good.

As per the recent quotes in the Xtratime.in, Shami called the failure as a rare one and expects the Virat Kohli-led side to come up good in the upcoming fixtures. Shami was present at the Eden Gardens when he backed the hosts and hoped the team did not get bog down too much with the defeat. He noted that they have to leave the failure back and look ahead. A defeat in the home conditions is only a part of the game, reckoned Shami.

“We lost in our own backyard, which is part of the game.  We have been winning test matches consistently in recent times. It’s just an odd game. It will not be fair to blame anyone for the loss. We must leave behind the failure and look forward to the remaining three test matches of the series,” quoted Shami.

Shami himself has been out of action since December 2016. He had injured himself midway through the England series. He has not played a match since them. He was not even named in the Bengal side for the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. He reckons that he is feeling better now and is hoping to play a few matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He said, “I am feeling a lot better now. I will try to play a few matches in Vijay Hazare Trophy.”

Interestingly, Shami was present at the Eden Gardens to watch Jharkhand take on Chhattisgarh in one of the fixtures. He admitted that he had come only to watch MS Dhoni play. He was definitely a happy man as Dhoni guided Jharkhand to a win with a masterly ton. “I came to watch him (Dhoni) play. It’s always an added incentive when you watch him bat the way he did today,” he concluded.
