Mohammed Siraj came into the limelight when he picked up ten wickets in six matches for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2017 edition of the Indian Premier League. He played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in this year’s IPL and bowled decently. In the meantime, he also made his debut for India in T20Is but hasn’t been able to make much of an impact in the three matches.

Subsequently, he was sidelined from the national team. Nevertheless, he was drafted into the India A team that played four-day matches against Windies A and England Lions. He finished with eight wickets against the Windies and then went on to pick seven wickets against the Lions. The right arm seamer also pinned Alastair Cook with a stupendous inswinging delivery in Taunton.

They will call me up at the right time

Recently, the 24-year-old talked about his happiness after dismissing the established English opening batsman. “It was a great feeling to dismiss a batsman like Alastair Cook. He is a reputed international batsman and it will certainly help my confidence when I get a chance to bowl against such classy batsmen in future. I am so happy to get his wicket,” Siraj was quoted as saying in Mid- Day.

He is currently playing for India A in their unofficial Test match against South Africa A in Bangalore. After the visiting team won the toss and elected to bat first, Siraj stood out with the ball in hand and finished with figures of 20.3-3-56-5. The Hyderabad-born cricketer also mentioned that he doesn’t want to clutter his mind by thinking of too far ahead and is ready to tread the patient route.

“I am now focussed on the India ‘A’ match against South Africa ‘A’. I want to chip in for the team in this match. It is not wise for me to think too far ahead and drift away from the present. If the selectors and team think tank feel that I have done something to merit a place in the national team, then they will call me up at the right time,” he added.
