The former South Africa bowler Morne Morkel has been warned by Discipline Commission of England Cricket. He retired from international cricket earlier this year after the controversial Test series against Australia and is now plying his trade in the ongoing County Championship. He is known as one of the nicer fast bowler going around in world cricket but was reported while playing in the game against Hampshire last month.

He was one of the most successful bowlers for the Proteas as he ended his career with 309 Test wickets in 86 matches. Morkel was also instrumental in the famous series victory of his team over Australia and bid adieu to the international career with a win. He is now playing for Surrey and is performing extremely well for them.

Why was he reprimanded?

According to the reports in Sport 24, Morne Morkel has been reprimanded for showing the dissent at an umpire’s decision. The incident took place during the game between Hampshire and Surrey which was reviewed by Discipline Commission after which he was warned for showing “dissent at an umpire’s decision by word or action/using language that in the circumstances, is obscene, offensive or insulting.”

Surrey went on to win that game comfortably by an innings and 58 runs but the on-field umpires Billy Taylor and Neil Mallender reported the 33-year-old after the match. The reprimand will not cost the fast bowler any money and it will remain on the record for the two-year period. The accumulation of nine or more penalty points n this period will lead to an automatic suspension.

In the recent game against Yorkshire, he bowled beautifully and picked seven wickets in the game including a five-wicket haul in the second innings. He returned with the figures of 5/39 to help his team bundle out the opposition to 152 runs as his team gunned down the required target with 7 wickets in hand.
