The speculations about MS Dhoni’s international future continue to grow with every passing day. The BCCI not awarding him a central contract raised doubts whether he will return to the field in India jersey. However, his participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is absolutely certain with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) owner N Srinivasan confirming the same.
MS Dhoni has been at the helm for the CSK ever since the inception of the cash-rich T20 league and the Men in Yellow have made it to the playoffs in every year. He is an extremely important part of the CSK set-up and there were reports a few months ago that he will be in the mega auction for the IPL 2021.
In the recent event, N Srinivasan cleared that MS Dhoni will play in the upcoming IPL season after which the franchise will release him only to pick in the auction again. “MS Dhoni will play this year. And next year he will be in the auction and he will be retained,” he said.

MS Dhoni earns Rs 15 crore every season
The CSK had retained MS Dhoni ahead of the mega auction last time around and according to it, the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman earns a whopping Rs 15 crore every season. However, with the age not on his side, the franchise seems to be planning to retain his services at a lesser price. While there were speculations earlier about Dhoni’s participation in the IPL 2021, Srinivasan’s comments clear that he will play that season well.
Most probably, MS Dhoni will bid adieu to the game after IPL 2021 and in the mega auction by securing his services, the CSK will look the build the side for the future. For now, they have stuck with the same formula of experience in IPL 2020 and might revamp the whole squad ahead of the following season.
Meanwhile, even as it stays unclear if MS Dhoni will play for India again, N Srinivasan’s statement confirms that he will play the IPL for at least the next couple of seasons.
