Amidst all the debates and discussions that have sparked up after MS Dhoni’s name was excluded from the list of central contract awardees by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly refused to comment on Dhoni’s exclusion from the list.

Dhoni, a stalwart of Indian cricket, had been left out of the list of the players that are to be awarded by BCCI. He has not played any international cricket since the semi-final loss of India against New Zealand during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. And, he had also opted out of subsequent series, increasing speculations regarding his retirement from the sport. Recently, his former team-mate Harbhajan Singh had also said that according to him, it was the end of the road for Dhoni and even a good IPL cannot bring him back.

Ganguly in his recent public appearance, while speaking to the media, denied commenting on this situation. “I can’t comment on this,” said Ganguly as quoted by The Quint. This statement will do nothing but add more abstraction to the situation regarding Dhoni’s future. One side has the team’s Head Coach, Ravi Shastri, saying that Dhoni had conveyed his message to the dressing room. And, the other side has Sourav, who, at the apex position of the board, straight up denied any comment.

MS Dhoni practices with the Jharkhand’s Ranji team

The fans, though might not see Dhoni playing in India colours anymore, there is still some cricket to be played by him in the upcoming Indian Premier League. Adding to their joy, Dhoni seemingly has begun his preparation for the league. Dhoni was spotted in the stadium in his home town, Ranchi practising with the Jharkhand Ranji team. This was Dhoni’s first public practice session since a long time.

With the situation continuing to get complex day by day, it is Dhoni himself, who can clear the air on this matter. And, he does not seem to have any plans to make any announcement for now. But, as everyone knows, that day is not far away, when the man, who is the reason many people watch the sport will quietly walk away from the sport.
