Mumbai Indians term Harbhajan Singh as the top off-spinner on his birthday

Harbhajan Singh is celebrating his 38th birthday today as the cricketing fraternity is busy pouring in their wishes for him. The likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Suresh Raina among many have already wished him on social media and many might follow through the day. But the best birthday message came from Mumbai Indians, his previous IPL franchise, who termed the off-spinner as the best.

Harbhajan Singh, this year in the IPL, played for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who went on to win the title for the third time. He was the crucial part of the set up for them but his old team Mumbai Indians missed him to the hilt as they were crashed out of the tournament in the league stage itself. But there is always a mutual admiration between the franchise and Bhajji and there is no love lost.

It was in the auction earlier this year when MI decided to part ways with the off-spinner by not retaining him. They went with the likes of Mayank Markande and Akila Dananjaya to replace him. Harbhajan Singh was the part of their set up since the inaugural season and his fading ability to pick wickets went against him as the defending champions went against the thought of bagging services.

Mumbai Indians, however, joined the long list of the people wishing for the legendary cricketer and touted him as the best off-spinner in the World. The birthday boy has scalped 127 wickets in 136 matches for them in 10 years and was economical throughout his stint with them. Moreover, he had also led the team on different occasions which proves that he was at the centre of the plans for them.

Though he is not being picked in the national side now, the cricketer tries to stick with the game and guides the youngsters whenever possible. He did the same while playing for CSK this year and his experience will be vital for them in the years to come.
