Murali Kartik trolled for confusing Shai Hope with Shimron Hetmyer

Neither of Hope or Hetmyer got the Player of the Match award.

After a humiliating defeat in Guwahati, the Windies weren’t expected to pose much of a threat to India in the second match in Visakhapatnam. However, Jason Holder and Co came out all guns blazing and managed to tie the match in the last ball. After losing the toss and being put in to field first, the visitors conceded 322 runs out of which 157 were scored by Virat Kohli.

Nevertheless, the Windies didn’t drop the gun and started the run chase on a positive note. The encounter went right down to the wire as the visiting team needed 14 runs off the final over. Shai Hope, who remained not out on 123 from 134 balls, smacked a boundary off Umesh Yadav in the final ball to save Holder’s men from going 0-2 down in the series.

Kartik makes a horrendous mistake

The Windies were in a comfortable position going into the last five overs, but some accurate bowling didn’t allow the batsmen from getting the remaining runs comfortably. Holder and Ashley Nurse’s dismissal put the skids under the visiting team and fortunately, it was Hope who bailed his team out. Apart from Hope, Shimron Hetmyer also played a significant role.

After his magnificent century in the opening match, the left-hander played a superlative knock yesterday as well. The southpaw notched 94 runs from merely 64 balls with a help of four boundaries and seven colossal sixes. Yuzvendra Chahal accounted for his dismissal in the 32nd over. Nevertheless, neither of Hope or Hetmyer got the Player of the Match award.

In the meantime, Murali Kartik, the former Indian spinner and current commentator, mistook Hope for Hetmyer in a post-match interview. He was quick to realise his mistake and quickly corrected himself. Nonetheless, he was trolled severely on social media platform Twitter for committing the error.
