Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman is ‘more than likely’ to join defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad in Mumbai before they take on the Mumbai Indians. The Sunrisers coach Tom Moody stated that the Fizz would join the team before their first away fixture on April 12.

Nevertheless, Mustafizur was considering skipping the 10th edition of the IPL as per his Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza’s suggestion. The Bangladesh Cricket Board was also looking to keep track of the speedster’s workload. The BCB was hence sceptical of issuing an NOC to Mustafizur Rahman as the tournament would weigh him down before he heads out to Ireland.

Ahead of the Sunrisers’ game against Gujarat Lions, Moody stated in a pre-match press conference in Hyderabad “Mustafizur is more than likely to join the squad in Mumbai.” His arrival will come as a great boost for the defending champions, as Mustafizur’s contribution was key in last year’s title win. The Bangladeshi bagged 17 wickets, and in tandem with the Flying Kiwi Trent Boult, the duo put pressure on the opposition right from the word go.

The Sunrisers, who began their title defence in style, went into the game without Mustafizur, and will be missing his services on Sunday as well against the Lions. Skipper David Warner will hence focus on having a balanced XI as they take on the Gujarat Lions at home.

“For us, it’s about having the right balance against the right teams as well. And obviously work out which games he (Mustafizur) is available for and obviously we’ll be using him for that. When that time comes then we’ll work out the balance and hopefully it is a good one. Now you’ve got myself, Moises (Henriques), (Ben) Cutting and Rashid (Khan) – We’ve got to work out the balance of the team with Fizz (Mustafizur) back in,” Warner was quoted as saying to Cricbuzz.

However, even if Mustafizur Rahman does join SRH, he will only be available for 9 to 10 games. The Fizz will miss out on the business end of the tournament as he will represent his national side in the Ireland tri-series. Bangladesh will clash against hosts Ireland and New Zealand in the tournament which begins on May 12.
