He has already made a mark across the world. Now ace Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan is set to conquer South Africa by playing for Durban Heat in the much anticipated Mzansi Super League (MSL) starting November 16. The Heat will take on Cape Town Blitz, led by Farhaan Behardien, at home ground Kingsmead on November 18. Khan is currently the No.1 bowler in ICC’s T20I bowlers’ list and the Heat will look to make the maximum use of his potential in the shortest format.

Rashid, 20, has an impressive record in the T20s with 200 wickets in 134 matches at an average of 15.65 and economy rate of 6.07. He has the record of taking 100 ODI wickets faster than anybody else and has 64 scalps in 35 T20Is. Be it for the country, province, club or franchise, Rashid has been a force all over. The man also has a decent batting hand and is the best all-rounder in ODIs at the moment as well, according to the ICC.

“I’ve got to number one by sticking to my game plan and that is what I will always do. T20 is a game that can change very quickly and not every game is going to go your way, and I will just do my best to try and win matches for my team,” Rashid was quoted as saying by South Africa-based sport24.

Rashid Khan is keen to appear in the MSL all the more since he is yet to play on the soil of South Africa.

SA exposure will enrich experience

“I am so excited to be playing in the first edition of the Mzansi Super League. I have never played cricket in South Africa before and I have only heard great things,” he said, adding that the exposure will enrich his experience of playing in different conditions and enable him to adapt better.

The Heat has some big names in their ranks in the form of Hashim Amla and David Miller and the presence of Rashid will bolster the side’s bowling.

“To be playing with the likes of Hashim (Amla) and David (Miller) is great and I look forward to joining up with them and the rest of the team,” Rashid said.

The MSL features six sides and the final will be played on December 16.
