Aussie spinner Nathan Lyon believes that South African batsman Hashim Amla is among the top cricketers of the current generation. While the world considers the likes of Virat Kohli, Steven Smith, Kane Williamson and Joe Root to be the rulers with the bat right now, Lyon claims that Amla still has it in him to be rated among the favourites.

Hashim Amla proved once again that age is not a concern for the bald sensation, as he registered scores of 78 and 87 in the second Test against England which was crucial in the win. As the Proteas squashed the Englishmen in a massive 340 run victory Lyon hailed Amla as the ‘best going around’.

Lyon praised Amla for his consistency and composure and said that it his extremely difficult to distract him from the game. “He’s just so composed, nothing gets to him,” said Lyon when asked about what makes it difficult to bowl against Amla.

What Lyon said:

“He knows his game inside out, he knows the shots he wants to play and the timing of them. “He’s just a world-class batter and the best going around I reckon.” added Lyon.

When asked about where would he place Amla in the world rankings Lyon pointed out that he is till among the very best that is the top 5 in the world. “He’s definitely up there, in the top five. I’ve got high praise for Hashim.” added Lyon.

Lyon said that Amla’s wicket is one every bowler would love to bag in a match. He also revealed that it has always been an honour for him to bowl to the classy batsman. Lyon has picked up Amla’s wicket just once in the 11 Test matches he played against the veteran.

“Personally, he’s one of the hardest guys to bowl to,” Lyon said. “It’s always been a privilege to play against him, that’s for sure.  “He’s always one guy you look at and go ‘I would really like that wicket’. “He’s definitely a world-class batter and he’s piling on the runs at the moment. “Hopefully he can keep doing that against the English and come February hopefully he runs out.” concluded Nathan Lyon.
