Navjot Singh Sidhu has received a lot of flak for his step to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Imran Khan earlier this week. He was one of the former three cricketers to have formally invited by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) including Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev. The latter two though declined the invitation citing personal reasons. Meanwhile, Shahid Afridi has lauded Sidhu for taking a tough decision and also felt that peace is the only way forward for both the countries.

The political relations between India and Pakistan are not so fruitful for a long time now which has also affected the cricketing relations between BCCI and PCB. Both the cricket teams haven’t played a bilateral series since 2012 and there are no chances of any happening soon with the Indian Government not giving permission.

With Imran Khan taking over as the new Prime Minister of Pakistan, there is a renewed hope now that he will work towards the betterment of the same. After winning the elections he had also said that bettering the relations with India will be his main agenda as the PM of the country.

Afridi’s tweet

Earlier in the day, Imran tweeted for Navjot Sidhu and thanked him for taking part in his swearing-in ceremony which took place on August 18. He was also of the opinion that India and Pakistan should look to join hands now. Shahid Afridi also felt that same and was happy to see the former India cricketer in Pakistan for the event. However, he wanted to stop the messages of tolerances from both the nations.

“It was great to see Navjot Singh Sidhu in Pakistan for PM Imran Khan oath ceremony. I really hope that his warm gesture is accepted wholeheartedly. Peace is the only way forward for both countries. Both nations need to spread message of tolerance. Such steps will reduce tension,” he tweeted.

Not long ago, he was involved in a heated argument with some of the cricketers on social media for his controversial comment on Kashmir violence. But this message from him surely makes sense.
