Pakistani cricketers Khalid Latif and Sharjeel Khan are in deep waters now as the United Kingdom-based National Crime Agency (NCA) has found evidence to prove the match-fixing that marred the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season two. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has charged Latif and Khan for breaching their Anti-Corruption Code and indulging in corrupt practices.

An NCA official handed over the evidence to a three-member Anti-Corruption Tribunal of the Pakistani board. According to the NCA, Latif and Khan were in touch with the bookies and even met them. Latif’s lawyer, however, has rubbished all such claims and is going to file a petition in the Supreme Court against the constitution of the tribunal which is headed by a former judge of the Lahore High Court, Asghar Haider who also worked for the PCB as legal advisor.

After Latif and Khan, PCB suspended four more players. Amongst them are opening batsman Nasir Jamshed and pacer Mohammad Irfan who is currently serving a 12-month ban. “file a petition in the Supreme Court against the constitution of the tribunal which is headed by a former judge of the Lahore High Court, Asghar Haider who also worked for the PCB as legal advisor,” said PCB’s legal advisor Taffazul Rizvi.

Sharjeel’s lawyer Shaigan Ejaz feels there is nothing new in NCA’s latest statement and the board is only delaying the case by filing four applications before the tribunal. Earlier this week, Latif’s appeal against the appointment of Asghar Haider as head of the tribunal was dismissed by the Lahore High Court intra-court.

PCB wants Nasir Jamshed back in Pakistan

Nasir Jamshed, who is also accused of involvement in corrupt practices, is currently staying in the United Kingdom. NCA released him on bail after he appeared for the interrogation. PCB is desperate to have the player back in Pakistan. They want him to appear before the tribunal. But according to his lawyer, the NCA has confiscated his passport which is why Jamshed is not being able to fly back to Pakistan.
