Age might just be a number but it is safe to say that Shahid Afridi has little idea about that number. The former Pakistan skipper has once again left the cricket world in confusion with his latest revelation about his much-talked-about age. The maverick all-rounder made the claim while thanking his fans and well-wishers for their messages on his birthday.

The confusion began in 2019 when his autobiography came out. In his autobiography, he had revealed that he was born in 1975 and not 1980 as the official records state. The revelations in his autobiography meant that Afridi was not 16 when he smashed a record-breaking 37-ball hundred against Sri Lanka in Nairobi in 1996.

“I was just nineteen, and not sixteen like they claim. I was born in 1975. So yes, the authorities stated my age incorrectly,” Afridi wrote in book titled ‘Game Changer. But the former Pakistan all-rounder’s revelation made things further complicated as he would have been 21 in 1996 if he was born in 1975 like he wrote.

Shahid Afridi reveals his age once again

On Sunday night, Shahid Afridi took to Twitter to thank his fans for their birthday wishes and used the opportunity to reveal his once again. Afridi revealed that he turned 44 on Monday (March 1), thus making the cricket world more confused. According to various cricket-related websites as well as ICC’s records, Afridi should have been 41 while according to his autobiography, he should have been 46 today.

But then again, unpredictability has been Afridi’s hallmark over the years and he showed it once again on his birthday as he tweeted:

“Thank you very much for all the lovely birthday wishes – 44 today! My family and my fans are my biggest assets. Really enjoying my stint with Multan and hope to produce match winning performances for all MS fans.”

Meanwhile, Afridi is currently plying his trade for Multan Sultans in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL). The veteran all-rounder has had a tough outing so far and would be keen to return to his form. In four games so far, he has managed to pick up only two wickets and has scored only three runs in two innings.
