New Zealand will be locking horns with the Netherlands in the first ODI at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on March 29. Both teams would be looking to get off to a winning start in this limited-overs bilateral series after the one-off T20I was abandoned with rain playing spoilsport at McLean Park last week. The Kiwis would be banking on home advantage under the leadership of stand-in captain Tom Latham.

The Netherlands, on the other hand, would be hoping to come out all guns blazing and prove a point against the Blackcaps in their own backyard. While the Pieter Seelaar-led side has a lot of promising players in the squad, it needs to be noted that the Dutch will be heading into the three-match ODI series after a humiliating 0-3 loss against Afghanistan. The Netherlands would be looking to challenge a Kiwi outfit that will be missing some of their key players as they are participating in the ongoing IPL 2022.

Pitch Report

The surface at Bay Oval is expected to offer some assistance to the new-ball bowlers upfront after which it will settle down and make batting much easier as the game progresses. Usually, the teams prefer chasing at this venue as it is not easy to defend any total over here. However, the captain winning the toss would be looking to bat first on a fresh wicket.

Probable Playing XIs for New Zealand vs Netherlands

New Zealand

Martin Guptill, Tom Latham (c), Henry Nicholls, Ross Taylor, Michael Bracwell (wk), Will Young, Colin de Grandhomme, Matt Henry, Doug Bracewell, Kyle Jamieson, Ish Sodhi

Netherlands

Vikramjit Singh (wk), Max O’Dowd, Boris Gorlee, Bas de Leede, Pieter Seelaar (c), Logan van Beek, Aryan Dutt, Ryan Klein, Philippe Boissevain, Fred Klaassen, Brandon Glover

Probable best batter of the Match: Ross Taylor

All eyes will be on Ross Taylor as this ODI series will be his swansong in international cricket and he would be looking forward to ending his illustrious career on a high. Taylor would be expected to make a significant impact in the middle-order and anchor the New Zealand innings successfully. The veteran batter has scored 40 international centuries and would be eager to add more to his tally in the three-match series.

Probable best bowler of the Match: Matt Henry

Matt Henry will be spearheading New Zealand’s fast bowling line-up in this series. He would be working in tandem with the tall pacer Kyle Jamieson and the duo would be expected to make the new ball do the talking up front. Henry has registered 12 scalps to his name in the last six matches for the Blackcaps and therefore, the Dutch batters must be very cautious while dealing with his lines and lengths at the tricky Bay Oval.
