No finisher in the side to help Jos Buttler hurting Royals: Sunil Gavaskar

The Royals have found batting in the IPL 2018 quite difficult to say the least.

Rajasthan Royals are in a position where they need to win every remaining game in order to stay a contender for the playoffs. In their last match against Kings XI Punjab, the Ajinkya Rahane led side managed the KL Rahul scare who had kept the side in the game throughout the game but the Royals bowlers held their nerves and won the game.

Earlier, Jos Buttler had played a superb inning of 82 runs helping the side post a decent total. Every other batsman around him, including skipper Ajinkya Rahane and one of the most expensive buys of the tournament Ben Stokes, failed terribly.

Rajasthan missing a finisher

Former India captain and IPL commentator Sunil Gavaskar pointed the batting woes of the side in his column for Times of India. According to Gavaskar, the batting of Royals hasn’t fired and lack of a finisher in the side is not allowing them to get the desired total on the board.

“Their batting hasn’t quite fired and they haven’t had a good finisher and that’s why they haven’t quite got the scores that they should have,” wrote 68-year old Gavaskar.

Stokes can fire anytime: Gavaskar

According to Gavaskar, the form of Ben Stokes has been one of the main issues for the Royals. However, Gavaskar is of the thought that the left-handed all-rounder is a class player and can return to form at any time. Gavaskar felt that one of the reasons of his poor form could be the fact that he stayed away from the top-level cricket following the pub-fight issue which made Stokes miss the Ashes and a number of series.

Gavaskar felt that Buttler has been doing a great job as an opener but is failing to get any support from others. The Mumbai-born former India opener lauded Jofra Archer’s bowling efforts in his column but felt that his batting hasn’t been up to the mark.

The Rahane-led side will take on Chennai Super Kings later in the evening. Notably, CSK has been in some form with their skipper MS Dhoni leading the side from the front. It will be an interesting battle if the Royals batters manage to come to the fore for an important fixture. A victory of Royals would mean the points table will have a movement while a loss would mean that Royals’ chances are nothing but over.
