Pakistan has been hit with financial woes in recent times. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic has plunged more misery on the nation. Similar to India, Pakistan is also a huge fan-following in cricket and amid such stern time, many Pakistan cricketers have come forward in the wake of the pandemic. Over 32,000 have tested positive so far in Pakistan and over 700 people have succumbed to death because of coronavirus debacle.

Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad, who is one of the most popular cricketers of Pakistan, has come up with a new initiative in such trying times. The veteran has asked all Pakistani citizens to contribute funds to a bank account which he has created to help Pakistan pay its debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In a video posted on his official Twitter account, Miandad urged everyone to contribute to the bank account. According to the former Pakistan international, it will be a huge help even if people can contribute between 1 to 100 dollars every month. Considering that Pakistan is already in huge debt, Miandad appealed everyone to unite. Pakistan may have to give away the atom bomb (nuclear power) if the nation asks the IMF for more funds.

“I am getting an account opened in National Bank of Pakistan. It will be an international account. The account will be in my name and I will not allow any other person to touch it. My main motive is to use the money to pay the IMF debt we have. I will once again appeal to all the Pakistanis in the world that I can see that the time to come will be very tough. I am not asking for a one-time amount,” said Miandad.

“If people can contribute 1 to 100 dollars every month, it will help. We all have to unite now. We have one big thing which is the atom bomb. I believe that if we now reach out to the IMF for more money, they will accept our request only after taking our status back as a nuclear power. Nobody is willing to give money to Pakistan now,” he added.

Miandad also slammed those corrupt individuals who had looted plenty of money from Pakistan and urged everyone to make necessary contributions. He also appealed the Pakistanis living in foreign countries to contribute and help towards the betterment of the nation.

“There were many people who have eaten a lot of money. They should get rid of it now. I would even appeal to them to be a part of my plan. I am begging all of you, to all the people who have looted Pakistan, to contribute the money now. The Pakistanis living in foreign countries who love me and the nation, who have relatives living in Pakistan, I beg all the Pakistanis living across the globe to contribute. I am not begging for myself but for my nation. Consider it as a charity,” he said.
