Not worried with India’s loss in Hamilton; it’s one-off case, says Harbhajan Singh

He also said the loss did not worry him much as he thought that the wickets in World Cup in England in May-July will be good to bat on.

India faced an anti-climax at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Thursday when they were comprehensively beaten by New Zealand by 8 wickets. The Indian batsmen, who till that time, were in good touch to help their team win three matches on the trot, fell collectively in the fourth game to get all out for just 92. It was India’s lowest ODI total in New Zealand and seventh lowest overall.

India were without the services of regular captain Virat Kohli, wicket-keeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and in-form bowler Mohammed Shami in the game. They tested youngsters like Shubman Gill who made his international debut and Khaleel Ahmed but failed to overcome the challenge posed by Tim Boult who took five for 21 in swing-friendly conditions.

Senior spinner Harbhajan Singh, however, felt India had it in them to come back strongly in the fifth match and win it to wrap up the series 4-1. India’s only and best win over the Black Caps in a bilateral ODI series is 3-1 which they registered a decade ago. Being led by Rohit Sharma in their final two games, India will have their best win over the Kiwis if they can dominate the final match in Wellington on Sunday.

One of those games in which the Indian batting didn’t click

“To be very honest it has been very good year for Team India in the limited-overs cricket. We shouldn’t be really worried about that one loss. I am pretty confident the boys will come back stronger in the final ODI. Even though Virat Kohli is not there, MS Dhoni will comeback in the team and guide them,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying by India Today.

The 38-year-old also said the game in Hamilton is only one of those matches in which Indian batting did not click. He also said the loss did not worry him much as he thought that the wickets in World Cup in England in May-July will be good to bat on. The Turbanator also felt that there was no need to try new players with the World Cup just a few months ago.
