After Nottinghamshire’s win against Surrey in the Royal London One -Day Cup final at Lord’s, the players were handed wrong medals with “Women’s One-Day Cup Champions 2017” engraved on it. The Notts won the match by four wickets and 13 balls remaining to lift the trophy this season. Alex Hales starred in the finals with his unbeaten monumental knock of 187. The medals were later replaced with the correct ones that evening before the team had left Lord’s after an extended period of celebrations in the dressing room.

Surrey elected to bat first after winning the toss and elected to bat first to post a challenging total of 297. Their innings was powered by 144 from Mark Stoneman who remained unbeaten throughout the fifty overs. Samit Patel starred with the ball as he picked up three wickets in the innings.

However, Surrey’s effort fell short of brilliance from England’s limited overs opener Alex Hales, who steered his team towards triumph with his mammoth knock of 187*. Chris Read, who has obtained a legendary figure in County cricket over the years, played his last season for his side and signed off with 57-ball 58.

To get some silverware for Read is very special: Hales

“It’s incredible, one of the best days I’ve had in cricket and definitely one of the best days I’ve had at Notts. The game went from one side to the other, they were on top to start with, we fought back really well with the ball, then took wickets early on and then we fought back as well, so it’s a great feeling to win the trophy,” commented Alex Hales according to thetimes.co.uk.

“Any time you set records is very special. To do so in a final, a huge game for the club and also in Ready’s [Chris Read’s] last year, to get some silverware is very special,” said Hales on Chris Read’s innings. Unaware of the record he broke of Geoffrey Boycott he said, “In a one-day game? That’s surprising. I didn’t know that but any chance you get to set a record is amazing,” concluded Nottinghamshire batsman.
