Nuzhat Parween following Dhoni’s path

The wicketkeeper-batsman is the second big cricketer to come from the Rewa division of the Madhya Pradesh. Ishwar Pandey was another cricketer who came from Rewa division recently. She is a huge fan of former Indian captain, MS Dhoni. Her story has quite a few similarities with the story of former Indian captain. She comes from a small town in Madhya Pradesh while Dhoni came from Ranchi. Football was her first love as she was the captain of the U-16 Madhya Pradesh football team.

The wicketkeeper-batsman left football as she decided to wear the wicketkeeping gloves, a decision which was difficult but later paid dividends. She left football 6 years ago to fully concentrate on cricket, and she became the first player to make the national team in such short time.

Her journey in cricket

When Parveen decided to focus on cricket, she was picked as the wicketkeeper by the Singrauli team. After impressing in the inter-district competition she earned a call-up in Madhya Pradesh’s u-19 team. Her rise surprised everyone as her performances meant that she was made the vice-captain of the Central Zone u-19 women’s cricket team.

She made her ODI last year vs Ireland. Her impressive performances earned her a spot in the Indian squad to feature in the women’s world cup. Indian women’s team performed brilliantly in the world cup as they reached the final for only the second time in history.

The Indian Women’s team’s next target is to do well in the T20 world cup and selection of Parween shows that Indian selectors are planning for the future.
