'Oh bhai maaro mujhe' - Fans troll official broadcaster SuperSport after they compare Rassie van der Dussen with Sachin Tendulkar

South Africa are currently involved in a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka at home. The Proteas took an unassailable lead in the series after thrashing the visitors by an innings and 45 runs in the series-opener in Centurion. The hosts are looking set to clean sweep the two-match series as they have put themselves in the driver’s seat in the ongoing second Test too.

At stumps on day one, South Africa were on 148 for 1 with Dean Elgar and Rassie van der Dussen leading the charge with the bat. Elgar was unbeaten on 92 while van der Dussen was giving him company 40. Their partnership is already worth 114 runs. Before the big stand, opener Aiden Markram failed to deliver and returned to the pavilion after scoring only 5.

Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka were all out for just 157. With the exception of opener Kusal Perera who scored 60, Sri Lanka’s top-order came up with a disastrous batting display. At one stage, they were reeling at 93 for 6 before Wanindu Hasaranga (29) and Dushmantha Chameera (22) helped them cross the 150-run mark.

Official broadcaster trolled for bizarre comparison

Comparing players from different generations is an indispensable part of cricket. Every time a new player starts performing well, the fans and experts make sure to compare him with the greats of the game. In present times, the cricket fraternity keeps comparing Babar Azam with Virat Kohli, Marnus Labuschagne with Steve Smith, and so on.

But on Sunday, the official broadcaster of the ongoing series between South Africa and Sri Lanka came up with probably the most bizarre comparisons of all time and were unsurprisingly trolled by the fans. The broadcasters compared Rassie van de Dussen with Sachin Tendulkar by highlighting the record of the Proteas star with the record of the legendary batsman after 6 Tests.

While Tendulkar is the most decorated batsman in the history of the game, van der Dussen is just getting started especially in Tests. So far, he has played only five Tests and has scored 289 runs with the help of three fifties. Tendulkar, on the other hand, has scored nearly 16,000 runs in 200 Tests with the help of 51 centuries and 68 fifties. Unsurprisingly, the fans were not at all impressed with the comparison and did not waste much time in trolling the broadcaster.
