The Indian team has got the world talking about them all the time. The recently concluded Australian tour has been nothing short of historic for them. They returned unbeaten in every series they played as they drew the T20I series 1-1, won the Test series 2-1 and the ODI series 2-1. While the Indian pace attack got all the accolades for their performance in the Test series, the ODI side came back from behind to script a memorable series win.

After the ODI series, there is one name on everyone’s mind and that is MS Dhoni. The former Indian skipper has received a lot of flak in recent times for his style of play. However, he silenced his critics with a magnificent performance in this three-match series which also earned him the player of the series award. The 37-year-old Ranchi wicketkeeper struck three back-to-back fifties, out of which he finished the game for India in the last two matches. The world is once again back to praising him and his ability of finishing games.

Former Australian captain Allan Border was all praise for Dhoni. He feels that the former Indian skipper is back with a ‘vengeance’. “Old MS Dhoni is back with a vengeance. Isn’t he? He played very well in all the games, particularly the last couple where he got India over the line again,” Border was quoted saying on HT.

‘Stay there till the end’ philosophy that makes Dhoni an all-time great

Dhoni has mastered the art of finishing games. He might not be the same old self but he’s still finding ways to finish and win games for India. In fact, he has an average of over 100 in successful run-chases which is by far the highest for any player in the history of ODI cricket.

He has a theory of taking the game deep and playing on the minds and nerves of the opposition. In the last two ODIs against Australia, Dhoni remained unbeaten and took the team home in the final over. Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar feels that the philosophy of staying right till the end makes the former Indian skipper an all-time great. He compared Dhoni to Javed Miandad who had a similar approach of taking the game deep and feeding off the energy of the nervous bowlers.
