Virat Kohli, the Indian captain, is the only current cricketer who makes the idea of dwarfing Sachin Tendulkar feasible. The man has raced ahead at an incredible pace in the decade he has been playing cricket and poses a serious challenge to the mountain of runs that his predecessor has scored in a career spanning 24 years. The 30-year-old batsman has scored over 19,000 runs with 66 hundreds so far while Tendulkar has over 34,000 international runs with 100 tons.

Although Tendulkar’s record of 49 centuries in the ODIs is within the reach of Kohli (41) now, beating the former’s overall records of runs and hundreds could be still challenging for the latter. While speculation is on over what is cricket’s million-dollar question at the moment, former South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis feels the answer to the puzzle is best known to Virat Kohli himself. According to the head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, there is no doubt about Kohli’s class and he can conquer anything he wants if he maintains his fitness and the will.

‘Kohli is world class, hungry, works hard’

“Kohli I believe can go as far as he wants to. He is a world class player. He is hungry. He works hard. He has proved that over the years. The main thing about him is that he keeps it simple. People enjoy watching him bat,” NDTV quoted Kallis, who himself has over 25,000 international runs and 62 hundreds besides over 570 wickets, as saying.

When asked whether Kohli can better Tendulkar’s incredible record of 100 international hundreds, the 43-year-old former player said only the Indian captain could answer that for if he has the fitness and will, nothing would be an obstacle for him.

Virat Kolhi has taken some massive strides in the 50-over format in recent times. On a number of occasions, he has come up with consecutive centuries – sometimes even three on the trot – that have reduced his gap with Tendulkar fast. He scored two consecutive centuries against Australia in the recent home series as well though could not win it for his side eventually.
