Option of shifting IPL abroad not discussed at all in the Governing Council meeting, clarifies BCCI official

The Board of Control for Cricket in India [BCCI] met the stakeholders of all the eight Indian Premier League franchises on Saturday to discuss the novel Coronavirus and its impact on the 13th edition of the tournament at its headquarters in Mumbai. Several sporting events around the world including the Premier League have been postponed in the wake of the escalating situation
And, cricket’s showpiece event- outside of Internationals- Indian Premier League has also taken a significant hit. The 13th edition of the cash-rich league, which was originally scheduled to take place from March 29th with Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings locking horns in an encore of the 2018 finals, has been postponed until April 15th.
The BCCI officials briefed the media post the meeting with the franchises where he said that the option of shifting the IPL abroad was not a part of the discussion. “Option of shifting IPL abroad not discussed at all in the Governing Council meeting” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

The question of holding the Indian Premier League was odd, considering that India is one of the least affected countries from the novel virus.
Meanwhile, Jay Shah, Honourable Secretary of the BCCI said that the main priority of the board and the IPL franchises, at this point in time, is to ensure complete safety of the players, fans and all the stakeholders connected with the league. He said that the BCCI will continue to monitor the situation and work closely with the central government and other regulatory bodies.
“The BCCI along with all the IPL franchises have reiterated BCCI’s stand of putting the safety and well-being of fans, athletes, and employees as a priority. The board will continue to monitor and work closely with the Government of India, state governments and other state regulatory bodies to decide on the future course of action in the best interest of public health” Jay Shah was quoted as saying by iplt20.com.
