48-year-old West Indian Ottis Gibson is all set to be unveiled as the South African head coach. It is just a matter of days for the transfer to get confirmed. Gibson is currently associated with the England national team as the bowling coach. He is expected to arrive in Birmingham on Monday to do his duties as the bowling mentor before England takes on West Indies in the first Test of the Investec Test series. However, now that Gibson’s departure is almost confirmed, the ECB will look to complete the deal as soon as possible.

It will be favourable for the Englishmen if Gibson remains with the team until the completion of the Test series against the West Indies which will stretch till September 11. But the problem that lies in their path is that the South Africa-Bangladesh Test series will commence from the 28 of September. And it is obvious for the Proteas to want their head coach to be present during preparations ahead of the series.

Du Plessis’ statement:

South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis had already confirmed the news that Gibson is the most likely contender to take up the new head coach job. It is now left with the board to confirm his appointment. Du Plessis mentioned that he has been in touch with players like Ben Stokes to get a clear idea about the West Indian.

The ECB will now demand a compensation from the CSA for the loss of their bowling coach. The two cricket boards are expected to come to terms with a deal very soon. But the agreement is not likely to delay the transfer according to reports.

Middlesex bowling coach Richard Johnson is leading the race to take the position of the bowling coach for the England national team. The opportunity can also be given to James Anderson who will serve as a player player-coach until someone new is given the charge.
