Pakistan Cricket Board to review team’s performance at cricket World Cup on August 2

Pakistan though were not in a great form when they went into the recently concluded cricket World Cup in England and Wales, yet their supporters hoped that the unpredictable side could produce some magic. Especially since they had won the Champions Trophy on the English soil in 2017, the general expectation was that Sarfaraz Ahmed’s side would repeat the feat again.

However, it was not to be. The Men in Green started disastrously as they lost to the West Indies by 7 wickets (the Caribbeans could win only against Afghanistan after that) and could manage a win in first five games. They maintained their ‘clean’ record of losing against arch-rivals India at the World Cup and the 89-run defeat against the Men in Blue at Old Trafford had left them in a disarray.

It was after that loss that Pakistan made a sort of comeback by winning four games on the trot against South Africa, New Zealand, Afghanistan and Bangladesh but an inferior net run-rate saw them crashing out of the semi-final race yet after they finished on 11 points as like New Zealand.

Performance of men and women’s teams’ show besides junior teams to be reviewed

The debacle saw Pakistan chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq stepping down and there are even talks that the team could have a split captaincy form different formats in the future. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has meanwhile announced that its cricket committee will meet at the National Cricket Academy on August 2 to review the performances of both the men’s and women’s teams besides that of the Under-16 and Under-19 teams.

News18 cited agencies to report that the cricket committee will also make recommendations to PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani over the matter. Outgoing PCB chief Inzamam besides head coach Mickey Arthur and captain Sarfaraz Ahmed have also been invited to attend the meeting and give their opinion and assessment on the men’s team’s performance.

The cricket committee is chaired by PCB Managing Director Wasim Khan and includes former men’s and women’s teams’ captains Wasim Akram, Misbah-ul-Hq and Urooj Mumtaz. It also features Zakir Khan, director, International Cricket and Committee Secretary; Mudassar Nazar, director, Academies and Haroon Rashid, director, Domestic Cricket.
