Pakistan clinched the 2-match Test series against Sri Lanka by virtue of a 263-run victory in the 2nd game hosted by Karachi. After conceding an 80-run first-innings lead, the home team bounced back strongly. They batted the opposition out of the game as their top four scored centuries in the 2nd innings. Pakistan declared their second innings at 555/3 to set a 476-run target in five sessions. No player barring Oshada Fernando (102) and Niroshan Dickwella (65) even got 20 runs in the chase as the Lankans were bowled out for only 212.

A win after a long time at home for Pakistan:

2006 – The last instance of Pakistan winning a Test match in Pakistan was way back in 2006. They defeated West Indies in the 3rd game of the 3-match Test series by 199 runs to win the series 2-0. Between these two Test wins, Pakistan played five Tests at home out of which four ended in a draw and another one was won by South Africa.


Pakistan recreates India’s feat:

2 – Pakistan became the 2nd team to have top four scoring centuries in the same innings of a Test match. India’s top four centuries in the opening innings of the 2007 Dhaka Test against Bangladesh.


A game with 2nd innings centurions:

1 – Pakistan became the first team to have four centurions in an innings in 3rd or 4th innings of a Test. There have been 22 instances in Test cricket before this game but all in the team’s first innings.


5 – As many as five players scored centuries across 3rd and 4th innings of this Test; the most in any Test match. Prior to this Karachi Test, nine instances of four players scoring hundreds in 3rd and 4th innings of a Test have been recorded.


A record-breaking start by Abid Ali:

1 – Abid Ali became the first Pakistan player to smash centuries in first two Test matches and overall the 9th player to achieve this feat.

Naseem creates history:

16y 307d – Naseem Shah became the youngest fast bowler to take a 5-wicket haul in Test cricket. The previous youngest with this feat was Mohammad Amir who was 17 years and 257 days against Australia in the 2009 Melbourne Test.

Naseem is also the 2nd youngest player to take a 5-wicket haul in Test cricket. Former Pakistan left-arm spinner Nasim-ul-Ghani was 16 years and 303 days at the time of his maiden Test 5-fer in the 1958 Georgetown Test match against West Indies.

A game for the youngsters:

2 – Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah became the first teenage pair to take a 5-wicket haul in the same Test match for a team. They recorded the 2nd instance of two teenagers taking 5-fers in the same Test. Elton Chigumbura for Zimbabwe and Enamul Haque Jnr for Bangladesh took 5-wicket hauls in the 2005 Chattogram Test.
