The India-Pakistan rivalry has always been the fan favourite, the most watched cricket matches in the history of the game was between these two teams. But it isn’t often that the arch-rivals clash. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in their bid to give the fans more of what they wanted to sign up an MoU with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) but their Indian counterparts have denied to honour it.
Over the years the political and diplomatic relations between the two countries has deteriorated to an extent that bilateral ties at any level seem tough to be executed. PCB persistently tried to work things around but owing to clear instructions from the central government BCCI has denied playing any cricket with Pakistan outside multi-national tournaments.
70 million
PCB has lost big money due to the same and has now demanded the BCCI pays them approximately $70 million as compensation.
“Our case is that the BCCI signed an MoU with us in 2014 to play six bilateral series, starting with our home series, which they have not done as yet. Secondly they have avoided playing us in bilateral series since 2008 although they have no issues playing against us in ICC events,” PCB chairman Najam Sethi said.
PCB presented options
As per the MoU, the neighbours were to play six bilateral series from 2015-2023 and Pakistan was to host the initial series under the understanding. In Sethi’s view if the Indian team can play them in ICC events despite the government’s denial then they could’ve figured out a way to execute the MoU.
“We even offered to host our home series against them at neutral venue(s) to be mutually agreed by both of us. In 2016, we even offered to host a limited overs series in Sri Lanka,” said Sethi.
