The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja had proposed a quadrangular series involving India, Pakistan, Australia, and England in January this year and had also urged for the tournament to be played in the T20 format. Now, it has been reported that the PCB’s proposal will be presented formally at the next week’s International Cricket Council (ICC) board meeting in Dubai.

As per PCB’s estimation, the proposed quadrangular T20I competition could draw a phenomenal amount of money both for the ICC and the participating teams which are somewhere around USD 650 million in media and commercial rights. As far as the window is concerned, the Pakistan national cricket board has come up with two months September and October.

This is a strategic paper: PCB official

“This is a strategic paper in which the ICC and its members have been encouraged and invited to explore an untapped event opportunity around traditional rivalries in cricket, turn them into a cricket extravaganza, attract a new generation of cricketers, speed up cricket development and maximize revenues for the members,” a PCB official was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“This concept not only provides context, but it will also become a much-anticipated event across the globe as cricket fans and followers want to see Pakistan play India or Australia take on England or India meet England or Pakistan face Australia on an annual basis”, the source added.

It now remains to be seen whether the proposal gets approved by the governing body of world cricket and the cricket fans get a chance to see four of the best cricketing sides in the shortest format compete with each other. Meanwhile, the report also states that the plan is for a single league structure consisting of six league matches.

The final will either be a one-off affair or a best-of-three finals which are expected to be held across two weekends. As far as the hosting rights are concerned, it has been proposed that it will happen on a rotational basis with the ICC having complete control of the event.

While the PCB has estimated the monetary part, it is still unclear as to what will be the exact breakdown of the revenue. Nonetheless, the ESPNcricinfo report mentions that “a significant portion could go towards the non-participating Full Members and Associate members.”
