Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad was tested positive in the dope test conducted by the cricket board during a domestic game. He was found guilty of consuming the banned substance ‘marijuana’. The board had confirmed the news last month but didn’t reveal the name of the cricketer stating that an independent panel is looking into the issue. However, they are now set to issue the charge sheet after receiving the report from the panel.

There is a possibility that Shehzad will be punished with a ban of three months as he has been tested positive for the first time according to the policy of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The duration of the ban is increased to 2 years if for the second-time offence which then extends to the life ban if found guilty for the third time.

PCB’s tweet confirms the news

PCB received the report from the Independent Review Board as they revealed Ahmed Shehzad’s name for the first time in public for testing positive in the dope test. In a tweet from their official Twitter handle, they also confirmed that the charge sheet will be issued today itself.

“Independent Review Board Report on doping case has been received by PCB. Cricketer Ahmad Shahzad has tested positive for a banned substance. PCB will issue charge sheet today,” the tweet read.

According to Dawn, a source in the board said that PCB wanted to be absolutely sure about the dope test given the seniority of Shehzad and hence they decided not to reveal the name. Also, the samples were sent to the Indian lab for confirmation which led to a delay in the results. The reports from India arrived only on Monday confirming the dope test results.

Earlier, there were also reports of some influential people trying to save the career of the batsman. Moreover, PCB’s deafening silence over the matter raised the doubts as well.
