Ahmed Shehzad was recently tested positive for consuming banned substance ‘marijuana’ in the dope test which was conducted by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).  While the board has confirmed the news, they haven’t revealed the name of the cricketer yet. But their silence on the matter is raising so many questions now. The news had broken through on June 20 but the opener hasn’t been sent even a show-cause notice till date.

According to the policy of PCB, if a player tests positive for the first time, he serves a 3-month ban and the duration is increased to 2 years for the offence second time. Shehzad is not the first Pakistani player to be tested positive as the likes of Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Asif, Raza Hasan and Abdur Rehman have also faced the wrath of the same.

Now according to the reports in tribune.com.pk, there are some influential people who are trying to save the career of Shehzad which is already in doldrums and the doubts are raising over PCB’s continued silence on the matter.

Independent panel looking into the matter

The PCB official stressed that the board cannot disclose the name of the player and also informed that the case is being looked into by an independent panel. Once the panel submits their report to them, then only the cricket board will proceed further.

Interestingly, Umar Akmal has also come under the radar after revealing in an interview that he was offered $200,000 to spot-fix two deliveries against India in the 2015 ICC World Cup. He was then investigated by PCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) head colonel (retd) Azam for as many as two hours. But there is no progress in this matter as well.

The deafening silence of PCB on these issues are creating doubts over the transparency of the cases as Shehzad should’ve received three months ban until now.
