PM Narendra Modi, the risk taker, stunned everyone yesterday after he declared demonetization the 500 and 1000 rupees currencies. In a move to curb the black money menace, PM Modi announced that from midnight currency notes of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 denomination will not be legal tender. People will now have to deposit notes of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 in their banks from November 10 till December 30, 2016.
In his 40-minute address, first in Hindi and later in English, the Prime Minister said the notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 “will not be legal tender from midnight tonight” and these will be “just worthless piece of paper.”
The news took the social media by a storm. The smart move was welcomed greatly by the masses and PM Modi was lauded for taking such a bold move. The effect was clearly visible among Indian cricketers as well. Virender Sehwag quickly dropped his thought in his funny style, Harbhajan Singh and Parthiv Patel also expressed their happiness. But, what caught the attention of the leader of the nation was the Indian head coach Anil Kumble’s tweet of appreciation.
Kumble tweeted: Massive googly bowled by our Hon. PM narendramodi today. Well done Sir! Proud of you!!

Coming back to demonetization, besides depositing money in bank accounts, the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes can also be exchanged with lower denomination currency notes at designated banks and post offices on production of valid government identity cards like PAN, Aadhaar and Election Card from November 10 to November 24 with a daily limit of Rs 4000.
The people who fail to deposit the currencies in the stipulated 50 days time till December 30 need not to worry as they can do so in designated RBI offices till March 31 next year after filling a declaration form.
