Kagiso Rabada, the South African fast bowler, is known for his aggressive intent on the field. He runs in with venom and leaves no stone unturned in ruffling the feathers of the batsmen. In the last few years, the Johannesburg-born speedster has carved a reputation as one of the most reliable bowlers in three formats and his stupendous numbers are there for everyone to see.

The 23-year-old is currently plying his trade in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. The opening match at the Kingsmead in Durban is presently underway and Rabada did a reasonable task in the visiting team’s first inning with the ball in hand. The right-arm pacer picked up Dhananjaya de Silva and debutant Lasith Embuldeniya, both of whom churned out useful knocks.

Rabada brings out something unique

However, he was involved in a friendly banter with Embuldeniya, who scored a patient 24 runs from 63 deliveries with four boundaries. The incident took place in the 60th over with Lasith at the striker’s end. In the first ball of that over, Rabada brought the batsman on the front foot. The batter didn’t have much clue about the delivery and made a rather tentative push towards the cherry.

The ball-shaped away and beat Embuldeniya, and nestled into Quinton de Kock’s webbings behind the stumps. Thereafter, Kagiso went up to Lasith and made a ‘fist-bump’. It was a bit bizarre, maybe Rabada wanted to get on to the newbie’s nerves. If that was Rabada’s intention, then it didn’t flounder by any stretch of the imagination as the batsman perished in the very next ball.

Lasith Embuldeniya stayed leg-side and tried to loft a full-length ball over the top. Unfortunately, he couldn’t middle the ball and hence it got the elevation, but not the distance. The very experienced Dale Steyn settled himself under the ball and didn’t make any mistake whatsoever in grabbing the cherry. It was also the last Sri Lankan wicket to fall.
