After loads of deliberations and travel restrictions in the COVID-19 pandemic the second leg of the 2021 Pakistan Super League is set to get underway on June 9 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

In the 15th match of the league, Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United are set to lock horns. Both teams had pretty similar campaigns in the first leg when the tournament took place at the iconic National Stadium in Karachi.

Having won three out of their four games, the United and Qalandars look good for a berth in the playoffs though their campaigns are not yet halfway. On a head-to-head count, the United are leading the Qalandars by 8-2, but the Qalandars, off late, has looked a tad tough to beat.

In fact, another win would take them to the top of the points table. The Qalandars haven’t defeated the United in a single match since the 2016-17 edition of the league.

Lahore Qalandars

The Qalandars would be delighted for the fact that Rashid Khan is back with them. Though he played only two games where he picked one wicket, he was their most economical bowler. Moreover, he also played crucial cameo in one of the matches, helping his side to glory.

James Faulkner’s inclusion is also expected to boost their line-up to a large extent. Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Hafeez were in excellent form in the first leg. In the pace bowling department, the onus will be on Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf to keep a check on the flow of runs.

Predicted XI

Fakhar Zaman, Zeeshan Ashraf, Sohail Akhtar, Mohammad Hafeez, Ben Dunk, Samit Patel, David Wiese/James Faulkner, Rashid Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Dilbar Hussain/Salman Mirza

Bench: Muhammad Faizan, Muhammad Zaid Alam, Callum Ferguson, Tim David, Sultan Ahmed, Tom Abell, Agha Salman, Joe Denly, Ahmed Daniyal, Seekkuge Prasanna, Maaz Khan, Dilbar Hussain/Salman Mirza

Islamabad United

In the Islamabad camp, Alex Hales need to set the tone for the rest of the batting line-up with his powerful stroke-play. Phillip Salt kept wickets for them in the first leg and he might keep doing so even this time around. Skipper Shadab Khan needs to take responsibility as well.

A lot will also depend on how Lewis Gregory and Faheem Ashraf play. In the bowling area, Hasan Ali was their standout performer in the first leg with six wickets. The others need to step up as well. The middle-order has quite a few power-hitters, including Asif Ali and Hussain Talat.

Predicted XI

Alex Hales, Phillip Salt, Shadab Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Asif Ali, Hussain Talat, Lewis Gregory, Faheem Ashraf, Fawad Ahmed, Hasan Ali, Muhammad Musa

Bench: Usman Khawaja, Colin Munro, Paul Stirling, Akif Javed, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Rohail Nazir, Zafar Gohar, Reece Topley, Ahmed Safi Abdullah, Ali Khan, Chris Jordan, Zeeshan Zameer, Muhammad Akhlaq
